Mental Health Commission of NSW

The Mental Health Commission of NSW have drafted a paper to allow them to hear people’s own experiences, give them a voice, and give them the opportunity to contribute to the discussions that shape decisions about medications under mental health -  this includes ADHD and coexisting conditions.

We need as many people with ADHD as possible to respond to this issues paper in order to raise the profile of ADHD under the mental health umbrella.  At present we are not being heard.

We need ADHD to be a compulsory part of training for all psychiatrists, stimulant medications to be on PBS regardless of age as it’s a lifelong condition and, scripts allowed to be filled in other states (eg when on holidays or working interstate). Also the waiting time and cost of seeing a psychiatrist, the cost of medication and, the stigma around taking stimulant medication for ADHD need attention. Let them know the difference medication has made to your life.
